START SAVING THE PLANET BY TAKING CARE OF YOUR GARDEN

Youth Shaping Climate Policy

In the debate on climate change, we often think of large-scale solutions: international agreements, global policies, technological revolutions. But what can we do, on a small scale, to contribute to a more sustainable future?

Alessio Arena, writer and scientific director of Villa Tasca in Palermo, shows us how taking care of a green space can become an act of resistance against the climate crisis and an example of collective responsibility.

Villa Tasca: A Green Lung for the Community

With over five centuries of history and six hectares of romantic gardens, Villa Tasca is not just a historic residence but a true sustainability lab. After the pandemic, it opened its gates to the public, providing a space for educational projects, environmental initiatives, and awareness programs, particularly aimed at young people.

A Message for the New Generations

Alessio, appointed ambassador of the European Climate Pact, emphasizes the importance of young people in environmental policies. It is often said that experience and expertise are needed to drive change, but he reminds us that new generations already have everything they need: the will to act, the tools to stay informed, and the ability to engage their community.

The Importance of Environmental Education

At Villa Tasca, even waste management is an opportunity for education: there are very few trash bins scattered around the park, a way to encourage visitors to be responsible and reduce waste. This is just one example of how small choices can have a big impact.

But Alessio’s message goes even deeper: taking care of a garden, a park, or a green space means taking care of the planet. Respecting shared spaces is the first step in developing an ecological awareness that can truly make a difference.
