Webinar: Doing Digital Feminism from an Intersectional Approach

How can feminist movements build solidarity, create change and challenge inequalities in digital spaces?

On 1 July 2026 at 17:00 CET, the You(th) CARE 4 Change Project will host the online webinar “Doing Digital Feminism from an Intersectional Approach”, with Silvia Semenzin and Hafsa Rmich.

The webinar will bring together two activists from Italy and Morocco in conversation to explore the realities of online activism as women. From navigating harassment and speaking on sensitive issues to building solidarity across contexts, the session will examine both the challenges and the opportunities shaping digital feminist movements today.

Digital spaces have become key environments for feminist activism, public debate and collective action. Online platforms can help amplify voices, connect communities and create new forms of mobilisation. At the same time, they can also expose women and activists to harassment, misogyny, silencing practices and other forms of digital violence.

This webinar will reflect on how women activists experience online spaces, how they respond to barriers to participation, and how feminist movements can build more inclusive and resilient digital communities.

The discussion will address:

• the challenges faced by women activists in digital spaces
• online harassment and technology-facilitated gender-based violence
• the role of social media in feminist mobilisation
• barriers to collective action and public participation
• emerging forms of resistance, solidarity and care
• positive trends for more inclusive online spaces

About the speakers

Dr. Silvia Semenzin is a sociologist and international advocate specialising in online misogyny, technology-facilitated gender-based violence and platform governance. She works as an Adjunct Professor at the Open University of Catalonia and as a Senior Researcher at AI Forensics.

Her work bridges academic research and feminist activism, combining digital methods, policy analysis and survivor-led strategies to expose the structural dynamics of abuse in online environments. In 2019, she promoted the Italian campaign #intimitàviolata, which contributed to the criminalisation of non-consensual intimate image sharing in Italy.

Today, she advises European institutions, governments and civil society organisations on the governance challenges posed by emerging forms of digital violence and the growing radicalisation of antifeminism.

Hafsa Rmich is a Moroccan social anthropologist, artist, cultural project manager and founder of Collectif Nar, a feminist arts and culture collective working on sexual and reproductive health, mental health and environmental justice.

Her work combines research, artistic practice and community engagement to create dialogue and challenge social taboos through creative approaches. Through her cultural and feminist practice, she contributes to building spaces where sensitive social issues can be addressed collectively, critically and inclusively.

Why an intersectional approach matters

Digital feminism cannot be understood through a single experience. Women’s participation online is shaped by multiple and overlapping factors, including geography, culture, race, class, sexuality, political context and access to digital spaces.

An intersectional approach helps us understand how different forms of inequality interact and how feminist movements can respond to diverse realities. It also allows activists and communities to move beyond one-size-fits-all narratives and build more inclusive strategies for collective action.

By bringing together perspectives from Italy and Morocco, this webinar will create a space for dialogue on how digital feminist movements can challenge violence, build solidarity and imagine more inclusive online futures.

This webinar is part of the You(th) CARE 4 Change Project, a European initiative co-funded by the European Union.

The project promotes youth participation, social justice, community engagement and critical awareness. Through educational activities, dialogue and international cooperation, You(th) CARE 4 Change supports young people and communities in understanding and responding to contemporary social challenges.

Within this framework, digital feminism is a key topic. Online spaces are now central to participation, activism and public debate. Ensuring safer, fairer and more inclusive digital environments is essential for democratic engagement and social change.
