Building the Web of Tomorrow

Learning how to code has never been more accessible. At the same time, the growing number of programming languages, frameworks and development tools can make it difficult for beginners to know where to start.

During this webinar, Dr Sergi Bray will guide participants through some of the core technologies used in modern web development, sharing the learning path he has built over the past decade while navigating an ever-evolving technological landscape.

Rather than attempting to teach every aspect of programming in a single session, the webinar aims to provide participants with practical guidance on where to begin and which technologies can be used to build modern digital services.

What the Webinar Will Cover

Throughout the session, participants will be introduced to several key topics in modern web development, including:

• coding essentials, including IDEs and code repositories;
• the foundations of the web: HTML, CSS and JavaScript;
• development tools and frameworks such as Vite, NodeJS, ReactJS and TanStack;
• server infrastructure, localhost, Docker and Kubernetes;
• open-source platforms including Forgejo, Harbor and ArgoCD;
• complete client–API–database web architectures;
• practical examples of what can be built, including secure chat platforms, online communities and other digital services.

As the subject is far too broad to be covered in depth during a single webinar, participants interested in learning more will also be able to access additional tutorials that Dr Sergi Bray will publish on his website.

About the Speaker

The webinar will be led by Dr Sergi Bray, founder of DefyAbuse.org, a non-hierarchical global network of domain experts and technical specialists working to combat the online facilitation of sexual abuse.

Since 2021, he has been researching and mapping online ecosystems related to deepfake and AI-generated sexual abuse. His research has shown that, since 2023, almost two new AI sexual abuse websites have appeared online every day.

To respond to this growing challenge, Dr Bray has been developing investigative tools and automated methodologies that enable DefyAbuse members to identify, investigate and contribute to the removal of websites that facilitate online sexual abuse.
