EU AI-Powered Gender Based Violence Reduction Initiative

AN OVERVIEW

The SHIELD project focuses on reducing gender-based violence (GBV) among young people, using innovative solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Gender-based violence, including stalking, sexual harassment, relationship violence and online manipulation, is a fast-growing problem among young people. SHIELD developed an AI chatbot that will help detect and intervene in such behaviour, along with training and awareness-raising programmes for youth workers, aimed at promoting safer environments, around GBV. The project also aims to influence public policies on a National and European level to ensure sustainable change.

OBJECTIVES

  • Detection and intervention: Developing an AI-based chatbot that identifies and intervenes in GBV situations among young people.
  • Training and awareness-raising: Creating a training and awareness-raising platform for youth workers and educators, improving their capacity to deal with GBV.
  • Sustainability of change: Influencing European and National policies on GBV to ensure lasting and integrated change.
  • Ethical analysis of AI: Addressing the ethical risks associated with the use of Artificial Intelligence in the prevention of GBV.

OUTPUT

  • An AI Chatbot to come in immediate support in case of GBV, easily accessible for the youth.
  • A training and awareness-raising platform for youth workers and educators, containing educational and resourceful section to prevent GBV.
  • A raised awareness among young people and professionals on issues related to gender-based violence.
  • Educational resources and tools for prevention and intervention in GBV situations.
  • A guide on ethical practices for the use of AI on the topic of GBV prevention.
  • A political advocacy for more effective policies on an National level and across Europe.

Where

Activities will be implemented transnationally, with a focus on Italy, Germany, Spain, Greece and other UE members.

BENEFICIARIES

The main beneficiaries of the project are young people, youth workers and the organisations involved.
