Green Athletes is an Erasmus+ youth exchange project that combines sports practice with environmental sustainability. The objective is to raise awareness among young people on environmental issues through sports, promoting experiential learning and active citizenship.
The project involves young participants from Italy and Portugal, structured around two mobility experiences in areas facing specific environmental challenges:
Through workshops, on-site interventions, and awareness initiatives, participants will gain concrete tools to promote sustainable lifestyles and contribute to environmental protection.
The Green Athletes project aims to raise awareness among young people about environmental issues related to marine pollution and urban waste management, fostering a deeper sense of responsibility towards the environment.
By integrating sports with sustainability, the project promotes eco-friendly practices and strengthens the connection between physical activity and environmental conservation. Additionally, Green Athletes encourages active citizenship, engaging participants in tangible environmental initiatives while developing practical skills in waste management, recycling, and marine ecosystem conservation.
The project also promotes intercultural cooperation between Italian and Portuguese youth, facilitating dialogue, the exchange of best practices, and the creation of an international network committed to sustainability.
The Green Athletes project materializes through a series of activities aimed at raising environmental awareness among young people and promoting concrete actions for environmental protection.
In Italy, activities will take place in Casapesenna, where participants will engage in urban clean-up efforts, recycling and upcycling workshops, and guided excursions to protect and enhance green spaces.
In Portugal, the focus will shift to marine ecosystem conservation, featuring beach clean-ups, biodiversity workshops, and activities such as surfing and swimming to strengthen the connection with the coastal environment.
Alongside these initiatives, the project includes a social media awareness campaign to amplify the message, sharing educational content on sports and sustainability, reports on completed activities, and engaging both local and international communities. Furthermore, local events and workshops will be organized to disseminate the knowledge gained by participants and promote sustainable practices within society.
The impact of the project will lead to a greater environmental awareness among young people, encouraging responsible and sustainable behaviors. Through direct experiences, participants will acquire practical skills in recycling, waste management, and ecosystem conservation, contributing to local pollution reduction through hands-on urban and coastal clean-up interventions.
Green Athletes also promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, leveraging sports as a means to engage with the environment while reinforcing intercultural cooperation between Italian and Portuguese youth. This fosters dialogue on global environmental issues, ensuring that local communities play an active role in sustaining and spreading these values.
