COGREENEU

European Cooperation Against Climate Change

AN OVERVIEW

The COGREENEU project aimed to involve local communities and organisations in Europe in the ecological transition, respect and care for the climate. The idea was for the policies of these organisations to be guided by a bottom-up perspective, where it is citizens who, through their decisions, propose ideas to prevent the consequences of climate change. COGREENEU sought to encourage citizens' participation in climate and environmental debates and actions by creating spaces for transnational activities, workshops and events where ideas and decisions on environmental sustainability can be put into practice.

objectives

The main objective of the COGREENEU project was to promote citizens’ participation in the ecological transition and sustainability in Europe, with an intergenerational approach with the particular aim of reaching young people.

  • Building new local policies based on the participation of citizens and young people as the main decision-makers.
  • Raise awareness and inform young people about the European Green Pact and their role in the ecological transition of the European Union.
  • Increasing the civic responsibility of intergenerational citizens and their involvement in issues related to the sustainable development of their cities.
  • Encourage the exchange of experiences and shared learning between different actors from different European cities in order to formulate local strategies and actions on the European Green Pact and ecological transition.
  • Contributing to the dissemination and publicity of European environmental policies at local level, with a special focus on young Europeans.

THE Results

The project had two main outcomes:

  • Green Deal Report:A comprehensive report that focused on the development of the European Green Deal within the European Union and its implications for local communities. This forthcoming report examined the evolving landscape of climate change and its localised effects. It’s a valuable resource for policymakers, researchers and community leaders, offering insights into the convergence of global climate goals and regional impacts. This report provides a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges faced by individual regions.
  • Guidelines for Sustainable Solutions: A set of guidelines for the implementation of sustainable solutions aimed at enhancing environmental protection measures in each participating European region. These upcoming guidelines were tailored to address the distinct environmental contexts and challenges present in each region. By offering pragmatic steps and recommendations, they will empower communities and decision-makers to actively embrace sustainability and environmental protection measures. These guidelines are expected to play a crucial role in promoting more resilient and environmentally aware regions.
